How do social rules affect our everyday lives? To explore this question, students from three of Paul Steinberg’s courses at the Claremont Colleges conducted research on the rules shaping social and environmental outcomes in the far corners of the globe.
Working in teams, students found photos representing day-in-the-life scenes from various countries. Next they reviewed the published literature on social rules operating in these countries and wrote concise summaries of the findings. Finally they composed “institutional landscapes” to reveal how social rules shape our world.
